This very large garden had a huge lawn and a lovely original Victorian conservatory, but little else. Split-level decking areas, LED lit pathways and planting areas, innovative outdoor seating plus a sunken trampoline pit have transformed it into a family-friendly outdoor haven.
After excavating and levelling the plot with our mini digger, underground channels were laid to house the drainage pipes, armoured electric cables and water irrigation system. A split-level decking area was created using Oroko hardwood deckboards cut to the same dimensions as the kitchen floorboards and secured with invisible fixings so that when the bi-fold glass doors opened the kitchen merged seamlessly into the garden. LED mains powered lighting was installed to illuminate the decking areas, pathways and planting areas, and electric sockets were cleverly hidden around the garden within the new stone walls.
A large timber seating area was constructed around the trunk of an existing red western cedar tree – perfect for a bit of shade on a sunny day. To install the sunken trampoline pit we excavated down 1.9 metres, installed a drainage system, timber retainers and a damp proof course before the positioning the trampoline inside so that the bounce line was level with the lawn. Finally we dressed the walls, steps and pathways with over 20 tonnes of welsh slate and reinstated the lawn using new, nursery grown weed free turf.
